Semi-Integrated Dishwasher: When It’s the Right Choice

Updated November 6, 2026. Written by Binyamin Elkalay. Compared on specs and Israeli shop prices, no lab testing.

The short answer: a semi-integrated dishwasher is built into a cabinet and takes a cabinet panel like a fully integrated model, but its control panel stays visible above the panel, so you can see the remaining time and change programs without opening the door. In Israel, a full-size model with 13 place settings costs about ₪⁦1,950–2,500⁩ (NIS), a quiet model with ⁦42–⁦44 dB⁩⁩ and a B–C rating about ₪⁦2,750–4,600,⁩ and a ⁦45 cm⁩ (18 in) slim model about ₪⁦2,700–3,950.⁩ The comparison page lists about 70 such models, far fewer than freestanding and fully integrated dishwashers.

This guide is based on product pages and price comparisons at Israeli stores in November 2026, and on the Siemens Israel website. We did not physically test the dishwashers. A full comparison of built-in dishwashers, including niche dimensions, is also in our integrated dishwasher guide.

What to look at before buying

What to checkWhat it isOur recommendation
Semi-integrated, fully integrated or freestandingSemi-integrated: built-in, cabinet panel, visible controls. Fully integrated: built-in, full panel, controls inside the door. Freestanding: its own front and top.Semi-integrated suits you if you want a built-in kitchen look with the convenience of visible controls. If you want a completely clean front, fully integrated.
Control strip finishThe visible control strip is usually stainless steel or black, and it’s part of the design.Match the finish to the handles and oven. On the Bosch SMI4HCS07E, per the listings, the panel is stainless.
Place settings⁦13–14⁩ on a full-size dishwasher, ⁦9–10⁩ on a slim one.For a family of 5 or more, 14 place settings like the Bosch SMI4HCS07E. For ⁦3–4⁩ people, 13 is enough.
NoiseNoise level in decibels per the specs. In an open kitchen, ⁦42–⁦44 dB⁩⁩. The Bosch SMI4HCS07E is 42 per the listings, the Siemens SN53ES04TE and Electrolux EES47310IX 44.
DryingAutomatic door opening (AirDry, autoOpen Dry) or a heat exchanger and ExtraDry.On a built-in model, make sure the carpenter’s panel doesn’t block automatic door opening.
Flood protectionAquaStop or WaterStop shuts off the water in case of a leak.On a built-in dishwasher it’s almost a must. Per the listings, it’s on the Bosch SMI4HCS07E and Electrolux EES47310IX.
Dimensions and panelAppliance height, niche range, and the permitted weight and size of the panel. The Zanussi ZDSN653X2 is 59.6×81.8×⁦57.5 cm⁩ per the listings. Give the carpenter the model’s installation sheet before they make a panel.

What is a semi-integrated dishwasher?

A semi-integrated dishwasher is built into the kitchen cabinetry and takes a cabinet panel, but its control panel stays visible in a strip above the panel, so you can see the remaining time and change settings without opening the door.

An article on dishwasher types on the Siemens Israel site explains that a semi-integrated dishwasher is built in like a fully integrated one, but its control panel is visible from outside. The advantages listed there: it blends into the cabinets with an accessible panel, lets you see the time and change settings without opening the door, lets you match the door panel to the kitchen design, and gives a premium look at a lower cost.

Three types of dishwasher, in brief:

  • Freestanding: has its own front and top. Stands alone or under the counter. The simplest to install and replace.
  • Fully integrated: has no front of its own. It goes into a niche and takes a full cabinet panel. The control panel is on the top of the door and visible only when you open it. The kitchen looks completely uniform.
  • Semi-integrated: right in the middle. It goes into a niche, takes a shorter cabinet panel, and the control strip, usually stainless or black, stays visible.

Why choose semi-integrated at all?

  • You want to see how much time is left without opening the door mid-program.
  • You like the look of an appliance with a visible panel that matches a stainless built-in oven.
  • You’re replacing an old semi-integrated dishwasher, and the panel and niche already exist.

What do you see on the panel? On most models, the control strip includes a display with the remaining time, program and option buttons, and indicator lights for salt and rinse aid. On models with Home Connect, like the Bosch SMI4HCS07E and Siemens SN53ES04TE, you can also see the status in the app. When salt runs out, you see it right away on the panel without opening the door, a small but practical advantage in homes with hard water.

Why not? The selection is small. The comparison page lists about 70 semi-integrated models, compared with hundreds of freestanding and fully integrated models. With some brands the selection is very limited, so if you’re not committed to semi-integrated, also compare fully integrated dishwashers.

Semi-integrated, fully integrated or freestanding: how to decide?

In an existing kitchen without a renovation, get a freestanding dishwasher; in a new kitchen where you want completely uniform fronts, get a fully integrated one; and if you want a built-in kitchen with a visible, accessible panel, get a semi-integrated one.

A practical comparison:

  • Look: freestanding looks like an appliance. Fully integrated disappears. Semi-integrated looks like a cabinet with a control strip, similar to a built-in oven.
  • Convenience: with semi-integrated you see the time and faults without opening. With fully integrated you have to open the door or rely on a light or sound. Some Siemens models, per the Siemens Israel site, project a light onto the floor, and some project the remaining time.
  • Price: from what we saw, semi-integrated and fully integrated prices are similar within the same brand and series. Both need a cabinet panel and installation. A freestanding dishwasher saves both of these costs.
  • Selection: widest for freestanding and fully integrated. Smaller for semi-integrated.
  • Future replacement: a freestanding dishwasher can be replaced with any freestanding dishwasher. With a built-in, the new one should fit the existing panel and niche, which limits the choice.

What about a freestanding dishwasher under the counter? Many freestanding dishwashers fit under the counter after removing the top cover, per the manufacturer’s instructions. It’s a way to save on a panel, but the appliance stays visible. If your kitchen is being rebuilt, most designers would prefer built-in.

Rule of thumb: if you’re ordering a new kitchen, decide between fully and semi-integrated based on the design of the other appliances. If the built-in oven is stainless with a visible panel, semi-integrated will look consistent. If you want a completely clean line of fronts, fully integrated. The decision must be made before the carpenter makes the fronts, because the height of the dishwasher panel differs between the two types.

Dimensions, niche and panel

A full-size semi-integrated dishwasher fits a ⁦60 cm⁩ niche about ⁦82 cm⁩ high or more, and needs a cabinet panel shorter than a regular panel, because the control strip takes up the top part.

Example dimensions from the listings:

  • Zanussi ZDSN653X2: ⁦59.6 cm⁩ wide, ⁦81.8 cm⁩ high, ⁦57.5 cm⁩ deep.
  • Electrolux EES47310IX: ⁦82 cm⁩ high.
  • Bosch SPI2HKS42E (slim): ⁦44.8 cm⁩ wide, ⁦81.5 cm⁩ high, ⁦57.3 cm⁩ deep, per one listing.

The niche height depends on the countertop height and the plinth height. Most built-in dishwashers have adjustable feet, but each model has its own range. Check the manufacturer’s installation sheet, and give it to the carpenter before they finalize the plan.

The panel: on a semi-integrated model, the panel covers the door below the control strip. The carpenter needs to know:

  • The exact panel height per the installation sheet.
  • The maximum panel weight that may be fitted, so the door hinge works properly.
  • How to match the handle to the other cabinets.

Automatic door opening: on models with AirDry or autoOpen Dry, the door opens slightly at the end of the program. Make sure the panel, plinth or a protruding handle doesn’t block the opening.

Clearance from the oven: if the dishwasher is next to a built-in oven, leave clearance per both manufacturers’ instructions, so the door opens without rubbing and the oven’s heat doesn’t affect the panel.

Plumbing: the water connection, drain and outlet are usually in the adjacent sink cabinet. Plan a passage for the hoses through the cabinet side.

Replacing an old semi-integrated dishwasher: if you already have a semi-integrated dishwasher with a panel, measure the existing panel: width, height and screw positions. Before ordering a new model, compare with its installation sheet. Sometimes the old panel can be transferred, and sometimes it needs adjusting or a new one. If the panel doesn’t fit, factor the carpenter’s cost into the comparison between models.

For full details on built-in dishwasher niche dimensions, including plinth height and depth, see our integrated dishwasher guide.

How much does a semi-integrated dishwasher cost in Israel?

A full-size semi-integrated dishwasher costs about ₪⁦1,950–4,600⁩ in Israel, based on store prices in November 2026; add a cabinet panel and installation.

What we saw on the comparison pages:

  • Zanussi ZDSN653X2 (13 place settings, ⁦46 dB⁩): about ₪⁦1,950–2,500.⁩
  • AEG FEB53622ZM (13 place settings, AirDry): about ₪⁦2,050–2,450.⁩
  • Electrolux EES47310IX (13 place settings, ⁦44 dB⁩, WaterStop): about ₪⁦2,120–3,120.⁩
  • Siemens SN53ES04TE (iQ300, rating B): about ₪⁦2,750–3,780.⁩
  • Bosch SPI2HKS42E (slim ⁦45 cm⁩): about ₪⁦2,700–3,950.⁩
  • Bosch SMI4HCS07E (Serie 4, 14 place settings, ⁦42 dB⁩): about ₪⁦3,290–4,590.⁩

More models we saw on the comparison page, without in-depth checking: Bosch SMI2HTS08E (13 place settings, rating C) from about ₪2,540, Bosch SMI4HAS07E (13 place settings, rating C) from about ₪3,130, Electrolux EEM48300IX (14 place settings) from about ₪2,370, De’Longhi WMD75HI (14 place settings) from about ₪1,690, Midea WQP⁦12-5335⁩Y (12 place settings) from about ₪1,490 and the slim Electrolux EES42210IX (9 place settings) from about ₪2,010. We cover the SMI2HTS08E and SMI4HAS07E in our integrated dishwasher guide.

Where the price difference lies: between the Zanussi ZDSN653X2 and the Electrolux EES47310IX, the difference is mainly ⁦2 dB⁩ less and WaterStop protection. Between the Electrolux and the Siemens SN53ES04TE, a B energy rating and Home Connect. Between the Siemens and the Bosch SMI4HCS07E, one more place setting, a third drawer, ExtraDry and ⁦42 dB⁩. Each step costs a few hundred shekels, so decide which of these really matters to you.

What else goes in the budget:

  • Cabinet panel: from the carpenter, depending on height and design.
  • Installation: fitting the panel, leveling and connecting. An installer experienced with built-in dishwashers is preferable.
  • Warranty extension: BSH offers an extension to three years for ₪199.

Price gaps: for the Electrolux EES47310IX we saw a difference of about ₪1,000 between stores, and for the Bosch SPI2HKS42E more than ₪1,200. Compare the final price and check that the seller lists the official importer.

A cheap semi-integrated or a good freestanding? On a ₪⁦2,000–2,500⁩ budget, you can buy a basic semi-integrated dishwasher or a higher-level freestanding one. If the kitchen isn’t being rebuilt, a good freestanding dishwasher gives more value.

Noise, drying and flood protection in a built-in dishwasher

With a semi-integrated dishwasher, check three things beyond price: noise of up to ⁦44 dB⁩ if the kitchen is open, drying with door opening or ExtraDry, and flood protection such as AquaStop or WaterStop.

Noise: per the listings:

  • Bosch SMI4HCS07E: ⁦42 dB⁩.
  • AEG FEB53622ZM: 42 or ⁦44 dB⁩, depending on the listing.
  • Siemens SN53ES04TE and Electrolux EES47310IX: ⁦44 dB⁩.
  • Zanussi ZDSN653X2 and Bosch SPI2HKS42E: ⁦46 dB⁩.

In a built-in dishwasher, the panel and cabinets insulate the noise a little but don’t eliminate it. In a kitchen open to the living room, ⁦42–⁦44 dB⁩⁩ is a reasonable target.

Drying:

  • AirDry (Electrolux, AEG, Zanussi): the door opens at the end of the program and air dries the dishes.
  • autoOpen Dry (Siemens SN53ES04TE): the same principle, with a heat exchanger.
  • ExtraDry (Bosch SMI4HCS07E and SPI2HKS42E): a button for intensive drying, with a heat-exchanger system.

Plastic always dries less. Rinse aid helps in every dishwasher.

Flood protection: in a built-in dishwasher, a leak under the appliance can go on for days before it’s discovered, damaging the plinth, cabinets and flooring. Per the listings, the Bosch SMI4HCS07E has AquaStop and the Electrolux EES47310IX has WaterStop. On the AEG FEB53622ZM, Zanussi ZDSN653X2 and Siemens SN53ES04TE, protection isn’t mentioned on the page. Ask the seller before buying.

Energy: the Siemens SN53ES04TE is rated B and uses ⁦0.635 kWh⁩ per cycle per the listings. The Bosch SMI4HCS07E is rated C, and the other models D. The difference in money is tens of shekels a year.

Hard water: as with any dishwasher in Israel, set the water hardness on installation day, fill salt and rinse aid, and run a machine-cleaning program every month or two. We cover the settings in our best dishwasher guide.

Slim semi-integrated dishwashers and two dishwashers at home

There are also ⁦45 cm⁩ slim semi-integrated dishwashers with ⁦9–10⁩ place settings, suited to a narrow cabinet or a second dishwasher next to a full-size one.

The slim models we saw:

  • Bosch SPI2HKS42E: ⁦44.8 cm⁩, ⁦46 dB⁩, ExtraDry and Home Connect per the listings, about ₪⁦2,700–3,950.⁩
  • Bosch SPI2HKS58E: 10 place settings, from about ₪2,250 on the comparison page.
  • Electrolux EES42210IX: 9 place settings, from about ₪2,010 on the comparison page.
  • De’Longhi WMD26HI: 10 place settings, from about ₪1,670 on the comparison page.

We didn’t check the last three in depth. A full comparison of slim dishwashers, freestanding and built-in, is in our slim dishwasher guide.

Two dishwashers in a kosher home: a common solution is a full-size dishwasher for meat (basari) and a slim one for dairy (chalavi), or vice versa. If both are built-in, semi-integrated dishwashers from the same brand will look uniform, with two identical control strips. Plan in advance:

  • Two water points and two drains.
  • Two outlets, not on the same power strip.
  • Two panels at heights that suit each model.
  • Clear marking of which dishwasher is meat and which is dairy.

Shabbat mode: on the semi-integrated models we checked, Shabbat mode doesn’t appear in the specs. Using delay start on Shabbat is a halachic question, so consult a rabbi. If Shabbat mode matters to you, ask for written certification from a halachic institute for the model.

Installation: a semi-integrated dishwasher plugs into a regular 16-amp outlet, an angle valve and a drain, like any dishwasher. (Israel runs on 230V/50Hz.) The outlet preferably shouldn’t be shared with a built-in oven or induction cooktop. After installation, run an empty cycle and check under the sink for drips before the carpenter closes the plinth.

When there’s no room for two built-in dishwashers: a ⁦6–8⁩ place setting countertop dishwasher can serve as a second dishwasher without changing the cabinets.

Which semi-integrated dishwasher to choose?

For most homes, the best semi-integrated dishwasher is a full-size model with ⁦13–14⁩ place settings, up to ⁦44 dB⁩, flood protection and an official importer; on a limited budget, a 13-place-setting model with AirDry will do the job.

By profile:

  • Large family, open kitchen: Bosch SMI4HCS07E, 14 place settings and ⁦42 dB⁩.
  • Energy savings and drying: Siemens SN53ES04TE, B rating and autoOpen Dry.
  • Balance of price and safety: Electrolux EES47310IX, ⁦44 dB⁩ and WaterStop.
  • Quiet on a mid budget: AEG FEB53622ZM.
  • The lowest budget: Zanussi ZDSN653X2.
  • A ⁦45 cm⁩ cabinet: Bosch SPI2HKS42E.

Checklist before ordering:

  • Have you decided between semi-integrated and fully integrated before the fronts are made?
  • Does the carpenter have the installation sheet for the exact model?
  • Is the niche height within the model’s range?
  • Is there flood protection?
  • Does the seller list the official importer?
  • Who fits the panel, and what does it cost?

Common mistakes:

  • Ordering a fully-integrated-height panel for a semi-integrated dishwasher.
  • Choosing a model without flood protection to save a hundred shekels.
  • Forgetting that automatic door opening needs clearance from the plinth and handle.

If you’re building a new kitchen, plan the dishwasher, oven and cooktop together. Matching the dishwasher’s control strip to the panel of a stainless built-in oven gives a consistent look, and if you’re comparing brands, there are also our Bosch dishwasher and Siemens dishwasher guides.

The bottom line

FAQ: semi-integrated dishwasher in Israel

What is a semi-integrated dishwasher?

A dishwasher that’s built into a cabinet and takes a cabinet panel, but whose control panel stays visible in a strip above the panel. That way you see the remaining time and change settings without opening the door.

What’s the difference between semi-integrated and fully integrated?

On a fully integrated model, the panel covers the whole door, and the controls are on the top of the door, visible only when you open it. On a semi-integrated model, the controls are visible from outside, and the panel is shorter.

How much does a semi-integrated dishwasher cost in Israel?

Based on store prices in November 2026, a full-size model costs about ₪⁦1,950–4,600,⁩ and a ⁦45 cm⁩ slim model about ₪⁦2,000–3,950.⁩ The cabinet panel and installation aren’t included.

Which semi-integrated dishwasher is best?

For a large family in an open kitchen, the Bosch SMI4HCS07E with 14 place settings and ⁦42 dB⁩. For a balance of price and safety, the Electrolux EES47310IX. On a low budget, the Zanussi ZDSN653X2.

Semi-integrated or freestanding dishwasher?

In an existing kitchen without a renovation, a freestanding dishwasher is cheaper and simple to install. In a new built-in kitchen, a semi-integrated model blends into the cabinets while keeping the controls accessible.

Do I need a carpenter for a semi-integrated dishwasher?

Usually, yes. You need a niche of the right size and a cabinet panel at a height that suits the model. Give the carpenter the manufacturer’s installation sheet before they make the panel.

Is there a slim semi-integrated dishwasher?

Yes. For example, the Bosch SPI2HKS42E at ⁦44.8 cm⁩ wide, and on the comparison page also the Electrolux EES42210IX and De’Longhi WMD26HI. They hold ⁦9–10⁩ place settings.

Can a semi-integrated dishwasher replace a fully integrated one?

The niche usually fits, but the panel doesn’t: on a semi-integrated model the panel is shorter because the control strip is visible. You’ll need a new panel at the right height.

Does a semi-integrated dishwasher have Shabbat mode?

On the models we checked, Shabbat mode doesn’t appear in the specs. Ask for written certification from a halachic institute for the model, and consult a rabbi about delay start.
