Tadiran or Electra Air Conditioner: What’s the Difference and What to Buy

Updated November 6, 2026. Written by Binyamin Elkalay. Compared on specs and Israeli shop prices, no lab testing.

Tadiran and Electra are the two oldest and best-known AC brands in Israel, and both have a wide range of wall-mounted inverter ACs: from basic models at about ₪1,000 (NIS) to premium series with WiFi and high SEER. The real difference isn’t the brand but the series. So it’s worth comparing model against model: BTU, SEER, noise, Shabbat mode and warranty terms.

On this page we’ve gathered each brand’s main series, the price ranges we saw at a large Israeli retailer in November 2026, the warranty terms the importers publish, and a short look at Tornado and other brands. (Israeli stores size ACs in “horsepower”, where 1 HP ≈ ⁦9,000 BTU⁩/h.) We didn’t test the ACs ourselves. The comparison is based on spec sheets, store prices and importer documents.

What to look at before buying

What to checkWhat it isOur recommendation
The series, not just the brandEach brand has basic, mid-range and premium series, with differences in efficiency, noise and features.Compare a Tadiran series with the equivalent Electra series at the same output: Air One vs A Inverter or Relax, and Alpha Pro vs Platinum.
Actual BTUThe number in the model name (140, 150, 240) doesn’t mean the same thing for both brands. The Tadiran Air One INV 140 is 1 HP, and the Electra A Inverter 140 is 1.25 HP. Check the BTU figure in the specs.
SEER and SCOPSeasonal efficiency in cooling and heating. On the models we checked: Electra Platinum INV 150 with SEER 7.3 and SCOP 5.1, and Tadiran Air One INV 140 with SEER 6.9 and SCOP 3.8. For an AC that runs many hours, the difference shows on the bill.
Warranty termsThe number of years and what you need to do to get them. With Tadiran, ⁦5–7⁩ years on wall units for private customers, with registration within 60 days. With Electra, check the specific model: we saw both one year and 5 years on product pages.
Shabbat modeA function that allows operation on Shabbat in accordance with halacha.Listed on the product pages of the Air One, Alpha Pro and A Inverter. It wasn’t mentioned on the Platinum INV 150. If it matters, ask for written confirmation.
ServiceAvailability of technicians and parts over the years. Both brands have a nationwide importer service network. Buy only from the official importer (yevuan rasmi), so the warranty will be honored.

Tadiran or Electra air conditioner: what’s the bottom-line difference?

There’s no permanent winner. In our comparison of equivalent models, Electra showed more high SEER and SCOP figures in its Platinum series and lower entry prices, while Tadiran showed more detailed, longer warranty terms for wall units and Shabbat mode on most series.

What we found, point by point:

  • Range: at a large electronics chain we counted about 80 wall models under Tadiran (the chain also includes models labeled Amcor and Galaxy there) and 31 Electra models. Both brands have models from 1 up to ⁦4–4.5⁩ HP.
  • Entry price: the cheapest Electra model we saw, the Relax Inverter 140, cost ₪989. The cheapest Tadiran-branded model, the Apollo 140 INV, cost ₪1,330.
  • Efficiency: the Electra Platinum INV 150 shows SEER 7.3 and SCOP 5.1. The Tadiran Air One INV 140 shows SEER 6.9 and SCOP 3.8. In 2 HP models, the Platinum INV 250 shows SEER 7.3 vs 6.6 on the Alpha Pro INV 240N.
  • Warranty: Tadiran publishes ⁦5–7⁩ years for wall units for private customers, with registration within 60 days. With Electra, terms vary by model and store. We saw both one year and a 5-year badge.
  • Shabbat mode: listed on the product pages of the Air One, Alpha Pro and Electra A Inverter. It wasn’t mentioned on the Electra Platinum INV 150.

Bottom line: if efficiency on the electricity bill is the main consideration, look at the Electra Platinum. If Shabbat mode and a long, detailed warranty matter more to you, the Tadiran Air One or Alpha Pro is a natural choice. Either way, compare the exact model, not the brand. Our best air conditioner guide has all the selection criteria.

What we didn’t compare. We didn’t lab-test the ACs, didn’t measure noise and didn’t test durability over the years. We have no reliable data on fault rates by brand, so we won’t rank one brand as “more reliable”. If you hear recommendations from friends or installers, remember they’re based on personal experience with specific models, sometimes several years old, and not necessarily on the series sold today.

Tadiran’s series: Apollo, Air One, Solo, Alpha Pro, Supreme

Tadiran has several wall-unit series in parallel, from the basic Apollo up to Supreme. The difference between series on a 1 HP model is about ₪900.

Price ranges for 1 HP (“140”) models we saw at one chain in November 2026:

  • Apollo INV 140: about ₪1,330. The cheap entry to the brand.
  • Air One INV 140: about ₪1,440. ⁦9,840 BTU⁩, SEER 6.9, Shabbat mode and WiFi per the product page.
  • Solo 140 INV: about ₪1,450.
  • Alpha Pro INV 140N: about ₪1,710. A popular series with Shabbat mode and WiFi.
  • Supreme INV 140: about ₪⁦2,050–2,290.⁩ The premium series.

At higher capacities: the Air One INV 240 at about ₪2,760, the Alpha Pro INV 240N at about ₪3,170, the Supreme INV 240 at about ₪⁦3,670–4,390,⁩ and the 4.5 HP Alpha Pro INV 45 at about ₪7,500 in the single-phase version and about ₪8,990 in the three-phase version.

Tadiran also has portable ACs, like the Move Air 10NG, and mini-central ACs, like the WAVE INV Silent Sense. On mini-central, the warranty is 3 years. For mini-central ACs and a comparison of models, see the dedicated guide.

Note: store product pages sometimes show contradictory figures, e.g. A++ in the specs and A in the features table. Compare by SEER and SCOP when they’re listed.

What you get when you move up a series. Moving from Air One to Alpha Pro and Supreme, you pay mainly for design, quiet and extra remote and app features. Before paying a few hundred shekels more, ask the seller for the SEER, SCOP and noise figures of the two models you’re comparing. If the figures are almost identical, the cheaper model will give almost the same experience in practice.

For homes that need a large AC for an open living room, the Alpha Pro series has a 4 HP model (Alpha Pro Inverter 450). On Zap (an Israeli price comparison site) it’s shown with ⁦31,350 BTU⁩ cooling and a COP of 3.74, and with a “previous energy rating B”. Its European rating hasn’t been updated there yet.

Electra’s series: Relax, Classic, A Inverter, Platinum, Titanium, Magic Touch

With Electra, prices start lower: a basic 1 HP model costs less than ₪1,000, and the Platinum series shows high efficiency figures.

Price ranges for the small models we saw at one chain in November 2026:

  • Relax Inverter 140: about ₪990.
  • Classic INV 140: about ₪1,090.
  • A Inverter 140: about ₪1,260. 1.25 HP and ⁦11,020 BTU⁩, with Shabbat mode per the product page.
  • AI INV 150: about ₪1,540.
  • Titanium INV 140: about ₪1,590.
  • Magic Touch Inverter 140: about ₪1,750.
  • Platinum INV 150: about ₪⁦1,780–1,850⁩ at two stores. SEER 7.3, SCOP 5.1, R32 refrigerant.

At higher capacities: the A Inverter 240 at about ₪2,500, the Platinum INV 250 at about ₪3,290, the Titanium INV 240 at about ₪3,230, and the A Inverter 450 at about ₪5,110.

A common mistake: the number in the model name doesn’t always indicate horsepower. The Electra A Inverter 140 is 1.25 HP, and the Electra Platinum INV 150 is 1 HP. At Tadiran too, the Air One INV 140 is 1 HP. Always compare by the BTU in the specs. A full sizing table is on our page on how many horsepower an AC needs.

Electra also has mini-central ACs, like the 6.5 HP EMD A SQ INV 65T, with Shabbat mode per the product page.

R32 refrigerant. Platinum models list R32 refrigerant in the specs, a refrigerant common in newer models. For a home user it doesn’t change operation, but it is one sign that it’s a current model and not old stock. So when you see an Electra AC and a Tadiran AC with the same number in the name, don’t assume they have the same output.

Warranty and service: what each importer actually gives

At Tadiran, the warranty terms for wall units are published explicitly: ⁦5–7⁩ years for private customers, provided you register the warranty within 60 days. At Electra, terms vary by model, so you need to check each model separately.

Tadiran, per the company’s warranty guide:

  • Wall units: ⁦5–7⁩ years, depending on the series, for private customers.
  • Mini-central and VRF: 3 years.
  • Multi-inverter: one year, plus two more years for a one-time payment of ₪199.
  • Business customers: one year only.
  • Condition: registering the extended warranty on a digital form within 60 days of purchase.
  • Installation: the installation warranty is given by the installer, not by Tadiran.

Electra, per the product pages we checked:

  • The Electra A Inverter 140 lists a 5-year warranty from the official importer.
  • The Electra Platinum INV 150 and Platinum INV 250 store pages list a one-year warranty from the official importer.
  • We didn’t find the full warranty terms gathered in one document, so ask the seller for the model’s warranty certificate before buying.

Why this matters: an AC should last 10 years or more. The difference between one and five years of warranty on a ₪1,800 model can be worth more than the price difference. After the warranty period ends, Tadiran offers a paid service agreement covering repairs, parts and technician visits. With other importers, find out whether there’s a similar arrangement.

How to claim the warranty. In case of a fault, contact the importer’s service center with the model number, serial number and invoice. Don’t call a private technician during the warranty period, and don’t let one open the AC. With most importers this may void the warranty. If the AC was installed by an installer not authorized by the importer, check in advance how this affects the warranty terms.

Should you buy a service contract? It’s worth considering on an expensive AC or a mini-central. On a cheap 1 HP wall unit, it’s sometimes better to set the money aside for repairs.

Tornado, Mitsubishi, Gree and other brands

Tadiran and Electra aren’t the only options. In stores you’ll also find Tornado, Family, Haier, Hisense and other brands, and some offer a lower price or a longer warranty on certain models.

  • Tornado: a well-known Israeli AC brand, with wall-mounted, portable and mini-central ACs. The SLIM SQ PRO mini-central series lists a 5-year importer warranty, subject to activation within 30 days. Tornado also publishes an HP-by-area sizing table, on which part of our guide is based. Portable models like the TO GO 20R EU are sold at the major chains.
  • Family, Haier and Hisense: at one chain we saw dozens of their wall models, some with WiFi at about ₪⁦1,000–1,300⁩ for 1 HP. Check who the official importer is and what the service terms are.
  • Mitsubishi Electric and Gree: large international brands that come up in Israelis’ searches. We didn’t find them on the product pages of the chains we checked, so we haven’t included specific models here. If you’re considering them, find out who the official importer in Israel is, what the warranty terms are and whether there’s a nationwide service network.

The rule is the same for every brand: an official importer, a written warranty, SEER and BTU from the spec sheet, and a noise figure. A well-known brand doesn’t guarantee that the specific model is the best choice.

Lesser-known brands and parallel import. At chains and online you’ll also see ACs from brands not well known in Israel, sometimes at very low prices. Before buying, check three things: who the importer is and the address of its service center, how many years of warranty you get and on what terms, and whether the model has a spec sheet with BTU, SEER and a noise figure. If any of these is missing, the price saving may turn out to be expensive. And with any brand, ask to see the warranty certificate before paying, not after.

Head-to-head comparison by use

For a bedroom on a low budget, the Electra A Inverter 140 gives more BTU at a lower price. For a bedroom where the AC runs a lot, the Electra Platinum INV 150 is more efficient. For anyone whose top priorities are Shabbat mode and a long warranty, the Tadiran Air One INV 140 fits.

Comparisons by scenario:

  • ⁦10–12⁩ m² kids’ room, minimal budget: Electra Relax Inverter 140 (about ₪990) or Tadiran Apollo 140 (about ₪1,330). Check Shabbat mode and noise figures before buying.
  • ⁦12–15⁩ m² master bedroom: Electra A Inverter 140, with 1.25 HP and Shabbat mode (about ₪1,260), or Tadiran Air One INV 140, with 1 HP, Shabbat mode and WiFi (about ₪1,440).
  • A bedroom with intensive use, including winter heating: Electra Platinum INV 150, with SCOP 5.1 (about ₪⁦1,780–1,850⁩).
  • ⁦20–30⁩ m² living room: Electra Platinum INV 250, with SEER 7.3 (about ₪3,290), or Tadiran Alpha Pro INV 240N, with Shabbat mode (about ₪3,170).
  • Large ⁦40–50⁩ m² living room: Tadiran Alpha Pro INV 45 in the single-phase or three-phase version, or Electra A Inverter 450. At these capacities, also look at a mini-central AC.

In a room where a wall unit can’t be installed, you can look at a portable AC. Both brands, and Tornado, have portable models.

In each scenario, if both models meet the need, choose the one with better warranty terms and more available service in your area. A difference of a few tens of shekels in price is small compared with the difference in service over a decade.

For a whole home, the common combination is small ACs from a basic or mid-range series for the kids’ rooms, and a more efficient model for the master bedroom and living room, where the AC runs the most hours.

How to buy right: official import, price and installation

Buy only from an official importer, compare the price of the exact model at several stores, and check what the price includes: delivery, installation, piping and removal of the old AC.

Practical steps:

  • Confirm the full model name. “Alpha Pro INV 240N” and “Alpha Pro INV 240” can be different models. The letters NG, N or X at the end of the name also matter.
  • Compare prices. We saw the same Electra Platinum INV 150 at two stores, about ₪70 apart. On expensive models the differences are bigger. On Zap, for example, a 4 HP Tadiran AC was shown in a range of about ₪⁦7,100–12,650.⁩
  • Installation: a professional price list shows about ₪⁦800–1,400⁩ for a wall unit up to 1.5 HP, and about ₪⁦1,200–1,800⁩ for ⁦2–4⁩ HP. Extra piping, a crane and chiseling are priced separately.
  • Warranty registration: with Tadiran within 60 days. Check the deadline with Electra and Tornado too (with Tornado, on mini-central, 30 days).
  • Invoice and installer details: keep them. Without an invoice, it’s hard to claim the warranty.

Finally, remember that even the best AC won’t work well if the capacity doesn’t suit the room. Start by calculating the capacity, and only then choose a brand and series.

Season and stock. At the end of summer and in winter some models are out of stock at the chains, and at the start of summer installers are busier. If you can plan ahead, order the AC and book installation before the rush, and make sure the model that arrives is exactly the one you ordered, per the full name on the box. (Israel runs on 230V/50Hz, so a US 110V unit isn’t suitable.)

The bottom line

Tadiran 1 HP: About ₪⁦1,330–2,300⁩ (Apollo, Air One, Alpha Pro, Supreme). Electra 1 HP: About ₪⁦990–1,850⁩ (Relax, A Inverter, Platinum).

FAQ: Tadiran air conditioner

Which is better, a Tadiran or an Electra air conditioner?

There’s no single answer. In a comparison of equivalent models, the Electra Platinum showed higher SEER and SCOP and Electra’s entry prices are lower. Tadiran publishes ⁦5–7⁩ years of warranty for wall units and Shabbat mode on most series. Compare series to series at the same output.

How much does a 1 HP Tadiran AC cost?

At one chain we saw 1 HP Tadiran models at about ₪1,330 (Apollo) up to about ₪2,290 (Supreme). The Air One INV 140 cost about ₪1,440 and the Alpha Pro INV 140N about ₪1,710. The price doesn’t include installation.

How much does a 1 HP Electra AC cost?

We saw small Electra models at about ₪990 (Relax Inverter 140) up to about ₪1,850 (Platinum INV 150). Note that the A Inverter 140 is actually 1.25 HP, at about ₪1,260.

How many years of warranty does a Tadiran AC have?

Per Tadiran, wall units for private customers get ⁦5–7⁩ years, depending on the series, provided you register the warranty within 60 days of purchase. On mini-central and VRF the warranty is 3 years, and on multi-inverter one year plus two more for a payment of ₪199.

How many years of warranty does an Electra AC have?

It depends on the model. The Electra A Inverter 140 product page lists 5 years of warranty, and the Platinum INV 150 and 250 pages list one year from the official importer. Ask for the specific model’s warranty certificate before buying.

Which AC has Shabbat mode?

On the product pages we checked, Shabbat mode appears on the Tadiran Air One INV 140, Tadiran Alpha Pro INV 240N and Electra A Inverter 140. It wasn’t mentioned on the Electra Platinum INV 150. If it’s critical for you, ask the importer or seller for written confirmation.

Are Tornado air conditioners good?

Tornado sells wall-mounted, portable and mini-central ACs at the major chains. The SLIM SQ PRO mini-central series lists a 5-year importer warranty, subject to activation within 30 days. As with any brand, compare the BTU, SEER, noise and warranty of the specific model.

Is the number in the model name the horsepower?

Not necessarily. The Tadiran Air One INV 140 is 1 HP, the Electra A Inverter 140 is 1.25 HP, and the Electra Platinum INV 150 is 1 HP. Always check the BTU figure in the specs.

Where is it cheapest to buy a Tadiran or Electra AC?

Prices vary between chains and promotions. Compare the exact model at several stores, and check that the price includes delivery and that the seller is a dealer of the official importer. A parallel-import AC may come with a different warranty.
